Anatomy Lab Recap + Special Footage (and an apology)

After our finishing monthly Zoom recording this Tuesday, I was pretty devastated to learn that the recording failed to encode, despite my having vowed to never let that happen again. By way of sincere apology to everyone involved in that wonderful session (you can see all of us in the thumbnail), I decided to record a solo Zoom that recreates some of what we discussed—and add something very special from our archives.  My regret is now your gain.

In the video, I start by narrating a slideshow of images from last week's KNMLabs dissection intensive at the Institute for Anatomical Research in Colorado Springs. I recap the two days with our advanced dissectors helping us prepare one of our donors as an anatomical teaching model, followed by five days of learning from both our donors with an extraordinary group of students and colleagues. Along the way, we explored many layers and textures, compared intimate male and female anatomy with Gil Hedley, explored breathing and thoracic structures, and balanced our time in the lab with movement sessions, hikes and plenty of opportunities to integrate what we were learning.

Because photography of our Colorado Springs donors was not permitted, I decided to reach back to our first KNM Lab in San Diego in 2020 and included some cadaver footage I have never previously shared. It demonstrates the movement of the lungs, rib cage, mediastinum and heart during externally induced breathing—and offers a striking view of how intimately the lungs surround and move the heart with every breath.

That 2020 lab also produced 20 hours of recorded material documenting five days of dissection and accompanying anatomy and movement instruction. We are finally preparing that material as a standalone streaming course, which will be available soon on my platform.  Stay tuned for that announcement.
